About Dr. Hess

Dr. Arthur Hess is a board-certified, fellowship-trained Trauma, Hip, Knee and Shoulder Specialist serving patient’s at BROC’s Hennessy Campus in Baton Rouge, LA.

Dr. Arthur Hess earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Biology from the University of Dallas before obtaining his Doctor of Medicine from Tulane University School of Medicine. Dr. Hess then completed his orthopedic residency at Harvard Medical School as part of the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program, serving as Chief Orthopedic Surgery Resident at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He further specialized in orthopedic traumatology through a fellowship at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland.

Dr. Hess treats complex orthopedic trauma injuries, including those involving the pelvis and extremities, as well as joint reconstruction and replacement for arthritis and post-traumatic conditions. He performs minimally invasive hip replacements using the direct anterior approach, outpatient total knee arthroplasty with robot-assisted technology, and anatomic and reverse total shoulder replacements. He also specializes in revision surgeries for failed hip, knee, and shoulder replacements.

In addition to his surgical practice, Dr. Hess is Chief of Surgery at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, where he plays a key role in trauma protocol development. He is also deeply committed to education, training resident physicians, physician assistants, and hospital staff.

Dr. Hess was recently named Chairman of the Louisiana Arthritis Foundation, reflecting his dedication to advancing patient care and orthopedic research.
